How to make a film in a week for under £20

Phenomenal Birmingham...

A twighlight state of regional panic sets in as investigative reporter Jonty Postlethwaite takes a closer look at his home town and unearths some paranormal goings on.
We made this in less than a week for under 20 quid :)

Profound words from a wise man

As a dear friend has posted some touching words, it has reminded me of Nelson Mandela's inaugural speech, it is a subject of debate when he actually presented it, but that is by the by.

I have this by my desk at work and whenever I feel a touch of the self-confidence bypass or just generally feel a bit down on myself, I read this and it perks me right up, enjoy!

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.

We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small doesn't serve the world.
There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine, as children do.
We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It's not just in some of us, it's in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.

As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

Update

Okay, no film to post right now, I am working on a couple. Life has been drama, drama, drama right now so I've gone back to good old pen and paper and been writing in my diary the trials and tribulations, the edited version might find it's way up here when it's ready.

Meantime, Sugar babe is 7 mins edited and there is another l'il project I'm working on too, I'll inform those who need to know when the time is right.

peace, love and slothery :)

The great digi vs film debate...in pictures.

Okay, here goes nothing....

So, if this uploads, there is a story behind it. It really should have been storyboarded, but with the good old bull in a china shop approach, well, we thought fuck it, let's just do it. An olde fashioned Bolex camera and some 100ft of 16mm film later and we were ready to rock.

The film is in 3 parts, the first part is actually a cunningly placed feature film condensed into a few seconds, it's hard work the old stop motion don't yer know? So, teddy is out for a stroll and well, wouldn't you know it, some barstard mini comes along and RUNS HIM OVER! Teddy ain't pleased about this, if you look frame by frame you can even see the eyebrows go all cross, not sure whether it's camera shake or an accident in the processing lab but there is a bit of crazy flicker at this point, I digress. So, our Ted, being somewhat quick tempered goes off hollers a New York cab and a cannon and yep, he blows the mutha up! The moral of the story, don't mess with Ted, actually Ted is a sheep, but nevermind that, immaterial

Part two: Space. So, I make a den, procure a laser from a small child (okay, it was from my own daughter, but she ain't gonna know for a few years yet) and hide out in said den and zone out, yeah, I liked that bit.

Part three: Now, it's all been a bit stop motion indoorsy up til now, the other guys were getting cabin fever so we went to a Theatre in the round Greek/Roman, iuno, some kind of round stone place with trees and just let the camera roll whilst I took a stroll and we fiddled with the shutter speed.

The BEST bit about this film is that if you put your ear right close, you can hear the projector whirring away in the background, there ain't nothing like it. Okay digital is easy, but film is cool!

And that my dears is that, digi vs film according to the sloth.

Squeak up kiddies

An early foray into the world of the Bolex....
Okay, it needs tweaking yet, but this is how it works:
Close your eyes now walk, walk for 100ft EYES CLOSED, no peeping now, then OPEN and that, my dears is Bolex.
Now as that film is non existantly annoying, I shall attempt to upload my so called soulmate inhaling helium instead. That's what you get for dabbling in the dark arts of hand held film.

Well that appeared to work, I may start to come here more often. So, it's that time of night when dope American crime fiction drama reconstructions come on TV, how DO they make it so cheesey and does it seem like TV history is being made at the time?

I can drink, smoke and heaven's above, I can even turn the channel over, that's power for you.
